Today when I talked to my mother, it made my day.
Hearing her voice makes me feel that I am right there with her.I waited a few hours and then called to talk to her therapists.
I spoke to her Occupational Therapist. She told me that my mother was able to stand (with assistance) for about 3-5 seconds on her own! She is drawing with her left hand. She is also becoming more aware of her right side!
Her therapist also told me that my mother is ahead of schedule and is working very hard......I then talked to her Speech Therapist. He told me that she is working on fluctuating her voice. For the first few weeks she was very monotone. He also suggested to my mother and Betty to bring in a cd player. Since my mother loves Broadway shows he suggested to Betty to bring in some cd's with her favorite songs so that she can sing along.
I called my mother and Betty again around 5pm today. When I talked to my mom, I told her how her therapists told me how much progress she has made! I told her that it made me feel as if I were the parent in a parent-teacher conference and my mother was getting STRAIGHT A'S!
I LOVE YOU MOM!

Hi Jason
Thank you so much for creating and keeping this blog updated. I find it to be very emotional at times but done with lots of love.I was thinking of going to see your Mom in late winter or early spring when she is further along and can maybe spend a few days with me. Unless you think I should try to visit sooner.....
I am so glad you & Betty are going to do the music for her... I was thinking the same thing....an IPod would be such a joy to have. If she loves her music as much as I do I know she will find it soothing and comforting..
Please know that we (all the Loyers) are following in her recovery and all of you are in our thoughts and prayers always (even Betty)
Give my love to all and will write again.
Love you and thanks again,
Mary
