Oct 24th 'in a nutshell'

I now know why older adults become frustrated with medical coverage....Betty and I went round and round with Hospital Case Managers / Medicare representatives / Rehabilition visits.

I'm not going to get up on my soap box, however please understand this:

I thought everything was set up for my mother to be discharged in a week or so, transition into a rehab center and the rest would be history.....well it wasn't.

Betty and I spent about 3 hours (off and on) with Medicare and other parties.

BOTTOM LINE: We are expecting that my mother be released from Blake Hospital on Nov 4th and transfer into Bradenton Health Care center......

Please keep your prayers going and your fingers crossed!

Oct 24th 'change in plans - PLEASE READ'

8:15pm.

One of my last posts until Betty can start to fill me in on my mother's progress.

However the day started out good, ate breakfast with my mother and she had some physical therapy.

I then went back to the condo to get Betty so we could 'double check' with Bradenton Health Care about my mother's rehabilitation.

Glad we went.....a quick meeting turned into complete CHAOS.....to break up the 'bad news' I just found this link.....PLEASE READ and COMMENT so that I can read your comments to my mother!

Oct 24th 'SHOULDER'

I forgot to mention that my mother has some SENSATION in her RIGHT SHOULDER!!!!!!!!!!!!

I almost fell off the bed when she said, 'I can feel that, it feels a little weird'!!!!!!!!!!

Oct 24th 'our goal is . . .'

November 4th.....I truly would never wish this on my worst enemy.

Everything was set.....I had accepted that I had to return home to see my family, get back to work/coaching, my mother was progressing day by day, rehab was set up (via Medicare).

Then BANG!

Wouldn't you know, everything was NOT ok.

Long story short, I stopped into the rehab center to make sure everything was set. They informed me that they would NOT be able to accept my mother unless her medicare was in place.

I thought, no problem, it will be as of Nov 1st.

NOT SO FAST.

Apparently with Medicare, you have to be in the hospital for '3 qualifing nights' in order for them to pay for rehab......

So that's where NOV 4th comes in.

If the Dr.s can keep my mother in ther hospital unitl Nov 3rd (Monday)......WE ARE HOME FREE!

If not, the rehab center may not be as good as Bradenton Health care, but my mother needs rehab.

It all comes down to insurance and Doctors HELP and MANY, MANY PRAYERS!'

Please if you read this PRAY FOR MY MOTHER to remain in the hospital until NOVEMBER 3rd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oct 24th 'tieing up loose ends'

I will be making sure I talk to Dr. Boyer, visiting Bradenton Rehab center, possibly visit Hover Round for payroll for my mother, getting a picture frame and spending the remaining time with my mother!

Oct 24th 'sleep over'

Last night I was determined to stay in my mother's room as long as I could......however the WOODEN chairs were putting up a fight. Ever try to sleep between two wooden chairs???? They are not too comfortable.....

Since the day my mother moved into room 439A....she has not had a 'room mate' = empty bed.....I struggled for the longest time about giving up the WOOD chairs for a BED.....the nurse came in around midnight and I mentioned something to her....she said, 'I didnt see anything'....

DONE DEAL.....got some shut eye until about 6am or so.
